Mar Vista Modernism

This is the latest piece in my smaller 8x10" paintings I've been doing.  This fun example of mid-century cool is from the Mar Vista tract designed by Gregory Ain in 1947 and most recently featured in the Showtime series "Masters of Sex."  If interested in this painting, please contact me for details.

I originally painted this carport of an Eichler house back in 2008 (top image) as part of my larger series of Eichler homes located in LA.  Over the years, I had time to really scrutinize this piece and thought it warranted a few changes.  After some adjustments to color and composition, I came up with an updated version seen here (bottom image).  If interested, please email me for availability: danny@dannyhellerart.com

I'm pleased to announce my first solo show in New York City opening up September 4th at the George Billis Gallery.  This series will focus on mid-century design, architecture, and car culture found throughout the New York City area.  My goal is to take the feel of the very-California imagery that I've exhibited in the past, and apply it to the New York environment.  What similarities are there between the two coasts when it comes to Modernism?  What differences?  Please join me for the opening on September 4th at 6pm or catch it before it ends on September 27th.
